This is a lesson plan on getting students to listen to the rhythm of selected words and practice dividing these into syllables. They will determine if selected words have one or two syllables. This lesson will give students practice in dividing selected words into parts as this will help to speed the process of decoding. It will heighten student’s awareness of syllable divisions in the process of reading. Students will be able to process certain prerequisite skills and concepts before being taught syllabication rules.
