Syllabugs! A Phonological Awareness Task to Target Syllable Identification

This is a fun and interactive way to work on identifying syllables within words. The product contains 88 cards with pictures depicting words ranging from 1-5 syllables. The specific breakdown of the 88 words pictured on the cards is:

-1-syllable: 24 cards
-2-syllable: 24 cards
-3-syllable: 24 cards
-4-syllable: 12 cards
-5-syllable: 5 cards

A card is placed at the top of the bug jar or bug box and the clinician or teacher says the word or asks the student to say the word. Then, the student determines how many syllables they heard in the word by placing a certain number of butterflies or bugs in the jar or bug trap. If you find this way to be too time consuming, I've also provided bugs & butterflies with numbers on them, so they could just find the corresponding number instead of counting them out. Kids have fun adding bugs and butterflies to their traps, while working on a very important goal to target phonological awareness at the same time!
