Symbolism Essay and Project: Personal Shield

Description
Students learn about symbolism while exploring their favorite topic – themselves! In this project, students create a personal shield and write an essay describing the symbolism of the components they’ve used. Includes an editable rubric and project sheet for clear expectations and easy grading! This is a great activity for Back to School, or to leave for a sub plan.
What You Get:
1. Project Description & Rubric – create clears expectations by giving students the score guide at the same time as the instructions (choose between points-based or standards-based rubric)
2. Graphic Organizer – helps students move from intended meaning (a character trait) to a symbol (an object, animal, or color)
3. Extended Symbolism Worksheet – asks students to assign symbols to even more traits
4. Blank Shield
