This digital lesson on Symbolism or Allegory is the perfect way to introduce students to symbolism. You can hook students' interest by using Tootsie Roll Pops to demonstrate concrete and abstract traits of a symbol, and then move on to common symbols and allegorical stories. I use this lesson in my Short Stories unit with "Masque of the Red Death" by Edgar Allan Poe, but it is compatible with any text.
What You Get:
1. An anticipatory set using Tootsie Roll Pops (or Blow Pops) to teach students how to analyze a symbol
2. Introductory PPT to help students compare symbolism and allegory
3. Guided notes and student practice for a digital learning environment
Your download is a .zip file containing a .pdf with download instructions for Google Drive, upload instructions for the digital learning environment of your choice (Google, Microsoft, etc.), an editable .ppt presentation, and a .pdf of the printable version of this resource.
