This PowerPoint presentation details symbolism and foreshadowing (I used this within my 9th Lit short stories unit).
The presentation begins with symbolism and includes a variety of common symbols we see daily to peak student interest. The presentation continues to define symbolism, where symbols come from, symbolism in literature, the role of symbols, and colors as symbols.
The second part of the presentation details foreshadowing and why authors use foreshadowing.
The final section of the presentation includes examples of both symbols and foreshadowing in the following short stories: "The Most Dangerous Game," "The Cask of Amontillado," and "The Necklace" (the class read these stories prior to the presentation). The final slide asks students to look for symbols and foreshadowing in our next short story --- "The Lottery." (Examples for "The Lottery" are NOT included in this presentation.)
