This venetian mask inspired assignment is part of my Intro to Sculpture and Ceramics curriculum. It gives students an opportunity to work with leather and learn how it can be a sculptural material. It's one of the early art projects because it covers basic molding and forming techniques, while also creating a unique and functional work of art. Symbolism is a big part of the lesson, and shows students how to make personal art.
This project pack includes:
-Lesson Plan with big idea, essential questions, national standards, step by step instructions, vocabulary, and supply list
-Symbolism research worksheet
My students love this assignment and every year they impress me even more with their creativity. It's a great way to get to know my students on a deeper level, through their symbolic final products, and help my students get to know each other better.
