This hands on activity was designed to be used in a center, in a morning work tub, or in a math station. It can be used independently or with a partner.
Students choose one of the 21 shape puzzles and fill it in using Legos or shape blocks, being sure to create the same design on both sides of the line of symmetry. If working with a partner one person will make a design on their side and the other must duplicate it on the opposite side. The shapes progress in difficulty from easy triangles to a 24 point star. Some of the shapes have curves making it necessary for students to use their critical thinking and spatial reasoning skills.
This activity is super fun, students love it, and it keeps them actively engaged for long periods of time. It also promotes peer to peer socialization through problem-solving.
