Here's a hands-on, creative way to practice synonyms! It also makes a creative hanging display for your classroom or school hallway!
Students will create a "synonym" sentence for this phrase:
Kids jump into a huge pile of lovely autumn leaves.
To do this, students first complete a worksheet* where they read a word and choose the correct synonym for that word. After their worksheet has been checked, they write their circled synonyms on the back sides of the appropriate leaf. They cut out their leaves (and title, word, and picture boxes), color, and then attach the pieces with yarn in order to create their autumn synonym sentence.
See the preview for further details and photos of the finished product!! (The document includes student-friendly directions with picture supports!)
*There is also an option for students to consult a thesaurus to identify synonyms rather than the worksheet.
