Directions: Each worksheet has one system of equations with 3 sets of directions.
1st – Solve by Graphing
2nd – Solve by Substitution
3rd – Solve by Elimination
There are 12 Worksheets in this activity- up to 36 students can participate.
Cut the worksheets into sections. Shuffle, then pass out to students. (May want to laminate prior to cutting to save for future use.)
Students will work their problem on a worksheet that is provided (with graph paper). Allow 5-7 minutes. At a designated time, allow students to circulate with the goal of “Finding Their 2 Partners” that have matching systems & solutions.
For example, a student may solve a system by graphing. There are 2 other students who have solved the same system by substitution and elimination. Linear equations are written differently in each set of directions, so students cannot just match equations.
The goal is for these 3 students to collaboratively agree upon a common solution once they get together.
A fun Christmas Trivia Fact is printed on each Worksheet. Students will be able to read the entire Fact once the 3 worksheets are pieced together. If time allows, each group may share their Christmas fun fact with the entire class.
An Exit slip is also provided with this activity.
