This is the perfect project to assign at the end of your systems unit. You will start by putting together 4 paper bags with pre-made clues and answers (just print and cut). Students will receive two clues for each bag that will help them write two equations with two variables. After they solve each system (using any method - substitution, elimination, graphing), they can check their solutions by opening the bags and looking inside! So much better than looking in the back of a book. :) Students will then be given the task of creating their own mystery bag with objects inside and clues written on the outside. Students can draw solutions or find little things around the house (marbles, legos, paper clips, coins) to put inside. They will decorate their bag to match the theme of their objects. When the bags are due, students will exchange bags and try to solve each others. I love leaving these out on desks for Open House - parents love them as much as the kids do!
