This resource includes a half-page of guided notes on the substitution method and a scavenger hunt. The note page has two practice problems and a reflection question. The scavenger hunt includes twelve systems of equations
to be solved using the substitution method.
Students will navigate their way through a self-checking scavenger hunt.
Each problem asks students to solve the system by substituting one expression into the other equation and to write the solution.
The scavenger hunt worksheet will have students start with the first problem. From there, the answer will lead them to the second problem. If a student does not find the answer, he/she will know the previous problem was incorrect. Once the student has located the correct answer, he/she will solve the next problem. This process continues until #12 leads them to the first problem. Most of the problems have one equation written in standard form and the other equation is written in slope-intercept form. At the end, two additional questions are provided so that students can explain their knowledge of solving systems of equations using the substitution method. A detailed answer key is included.
