Students apply systems of linear equations to model a school fundraiser. Students choose what they want to raffle, design the marketing campaign, calculate the breakeven point and expected profits, then create a poster to present their proposal to the school's Fundraising Committee. Includes the student packet and a grading rubric.
This activity works well to show students how they can use systems of equations in business situations. Students can work individually or in cooperative groups. Students are more engaged when they can use their own raffle ideas -- and teachers can learn about their students' interests based on the prizes students choose!
