PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Students suddenly become engaged when you have an activity using dice or coins so here is a partner activity that combines both. The students will use a die and a coin and follow the "rules" given the the document provided in order to create their own equations. Once the students create 2 equations they will use one of the grids provided and graph their system of linear equations.

The teacher can determine if students should graph by hand or if they should create a table and plot points or plot points provided in a calculator. Teachers can also decide which solving method the students should use to find their solutions: approximating using the graph drawn, using the TRACE function in the graphing calculator, setting the two equations equal and solving for x, using the EQUATION SOLVER function in the calculator. If the teacher does not limit the way of graphing or the method behind finding the solution a discussion could be launched after the activity about how students completed the graphing and finding solution part of the activity.
