An analysis of T. S. Eliot’s “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock,” one of the seminal poems in modern literature. Through this handout your students will explore the themes, structure, characters, color and animal imagery, irony, and biblical and literary allusions in the poem. They will discover the intricacy of Eliot’s poem through hand-on activities, such as: In reading the poem, note every animal used and relate aspects of these animals to Prufrock’s character.
My handout, which has blanks which your students can fill in, is suitable as an in-class activity or for homework. An Answer Key is provided on a separate sheet at the end of the handout.
