This project allows students to show understanding of characters, setting, and symbols for The Great Gatsby. Students make T-shirts as an alternative means of assessment and content knowledge; teachers get some great projects that double as creative décor the next time they cover the novel!
The project was designed for two types of students:
1) Your average student. This is the student who just wants to get it done, complete the requirements, and get a grade. It requires a little art, some writing, and character/setting/symbol knowledge.
2) Your creative student. This is the student who doodles or draws in class when they should be working or seeks creative control over assignments. It requires a creative mind that can handle a large amount of art, little writing, and character/setting/symbol knowledge.
Students can earn participation points by WEARING the t-shirt all day one day. Teachers sign off that the student indeed wore the shirt in their classes. By doing this, students can avoid the dreaded presentation in class; teachers avoid half-effort projects because students want to make something they are proud to wear!
The packet is ready to PRESENT to class OR print out and distribute. Teacher directions are NOT included, as the teacher should simply go over the rubrics and information included.
