Don't be perplexed, TAME that text!
TAME is an acronym that I use with my students to analyze difficult primary sources. Each letter stands for a different step:
T- Title and Source
M- Main Idea
The skills in TAME are all critical in completing a close reading of any written work in history, and will help any student think critically about complex texts.
Students will have the opportunity to TAME a Chinese account of the Boxer Rebellion. The worksheet includes the primary source, as well as a written assignment to encourage higher level critical thinking skills.
However, in any classroom there are students who may need additional entry points. I also created a differentiated version that includes annotation strategies, vocabulary, and guided questions. This is geared towards English Language Learners or special education students. This way, all students have the opportunity to analyze historical texts.
I hope your students successfully TAME this document!
