I created this TED TIPS poster for my 7th grade ELA classes to have a handy acronym of important skills to incorporate into their narrative essays on the Writing STAAR.
When I would individually check my students' writing in class, I became blue in the face constantly telling one student "can we find a better word? Where's your thesaurus?" and another student "Ooh! What a great place to put some imagery, don't you think?"
Thus I created the kid-friendly, easy to remember "TED TIPS" slogan.
I asked my librarian to blow this poster up and it hung in my room all year. Students knew to check the TED TIPS as they wrote and that I would be grading their essays with TED TIPS in mind.
I tried to focus on teaching one writing skill at a time in the TED TIPS method and before long, students easily remembered what each letter stood for.
I hope this can help your classes!!
