This TED Talk worksheet is intended to be used with Jackson Katz' TED Talk, "Violence Against Women- It's a Men's Issue." It is appropriate for most high school-level Psychology, Social Studies, Health, Life Skills, or Service Learning classes.
The video, worksheet, and class discussion (recommended) can be completed in one class period. I often use this resource as part of a unit on domestic violence. In my Life Skills and Service learning classes, I generally devote at least a week to this topic. This lesson, combined with guest speakers and service-learning opportunities can be an incredibly powerful and meaningful education opportunity for most students.
From TED: Domestic violence and sexual abuse are often called "women’s issues.” But in this bold, blunt talk, Jackson Katz points out that these are intrinsically men’s issues — and shows how these violent behaviors are tied to definitions of manhood. A clarion call for us all — women and men — to call out unacceptable behavior and be leaders of change.
