This product contains a listening and discussion guide for the TED Talk, "Our Story of Rape and Reconciliation" by Thordis Elva and Tom Stranger. The TED Talk is a powerful story of a sexual assault and its aftermath on both the survivor and the perpetrator. It encourages dialogue about why rape is not just a women's issue, and the role men play in addressing this problem in our culture.
The guide has questions for students to answer as they listen and asks them to write their own discussion questions to share with their classmates. I have also included five discussion questions as examples or to help you get started. There is an answer key as well. It would be great for a sociology or psychology class, and also addresses the listening standards for an English classroom.
This would be a great flipped classroom lesson for students to listen at home and bring their questions for an in-class discussion, or the talk can be listened to in class. Click here to view the TED Talk.
It goes without saying that this talk contains mature content, so be sure to preview ahead of time.
