Lisa Feldman Barrett's TED Talk, You Aren’t at the Mercy of Your Emotions- Your Brain Creates Them, is a great look at how we can be in control of our emotions. She looks at how our emotions run off predictions from our brain and offers insight on steps we can take to get ahead of those emotions. This talk would be a great addition during Unit 8: Motivation & Emotion in AP Psychology, a class focusing on mindfulness, Life Skills, Health, or a regular Psychology class.
From TED: "Can you look at someone's face and know what they're feeling? Does everyone experience happiness, sadness and anxiety the same way? What are emotions anyway? For the past 25 years, psychology professor Lisa Feldman Barrett has mapped facial expressions, scanned brains and analyzed hundreds of physiology studies to understand what emotions really are. She shares the results of her exhaustive research -- and explains how we may have more control over our emotions than we think."
The talk is a little over 18 minutes in length and the worksheet contains 16 questions. An answer key has been provided for your convenience.
