DIRECT INTERVENTION READING STRATEGIES THAT WORK
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS WITH ANSWER KEYS INCLUDED
INFORMATIONAL HANDOUTS & GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS
This Guided Listening: TED Talks Daily Podcast resource includes direct intervention reading strategies for three podcasts carefully selected for the secondary classroom!
The three podcasts are produced by TED Talks Daily, and are titled "Why we choke under pressure - and how to avoid it," "How to get serious about diversity and inclusion in the workplace," and "3 ways to make better decisions - by thinking like a computer." These podcasts can be found at www.ted.com. Accompanying each podcast is a set of guided questions, as well as a KWL Graphic Organizer.
I deliver this lesson in a variety of ways, depending on my group of students and the resources available in the room. Sometimes I allow them to access these podcasts on their own devices, and work on the guided questions independently. Sometimes I allow them to incorporate choice and select the podcast that interests them most. Often times, I will share the podcast with the entire class, and provide them with the transcript and articles to refer to afterwards to finish their post-reading responses.
Whichever method you choose, I recommend reading through the questions together as a class before diving into the listening portion of the lesson!
A hyperlink for each podcast has been included in this resource. I will also keep live links in the product description of this product on this page in my TeachersPayTeachers store. If you have any difficulty retrieving any of these resources, please do not hesitate to contact me!
