This activity addresses the student expectation TEK 3.3F, a readiness standard, in which students are required to represent equivalent fractions with denominators of 2,3,4,6 and 8 using a variety of objects, and pictorial models, including number lines. 10 task cards are included that would fit perfectly in a composition notebook. Students use various representations to determine if two fractions are equivalent using a given model. Number lines, fractions tiles, pattern blocks, and area models are provided for students to represent, and then justify if these two fractions are equivalent. This activity would be great for review for the upcoming STAAR, or in a small group to reinforce the idea of equivalent fractions.
