Students will construct number sense regarding decimal numbers through the thousandths place and whole numbers through 1,000,000,000. In third grade, students worked with numbers through the hundredths place and to the 100,000 place. Students will use understandings of the base ten number system to interpret values of digits in relation to one another. They will represent numbers with expanded notation and numerals. They will use reasoning about place value understandings to compare and order decimal numbers as well as whole numbers. Students will also add and subtraction whole numbers and decimals through the thousandths working towards fluency as fluency with addition and subtraction of rational numbers is expected in grade 5 TEKS.
