Included in this resource are six research topics for students that are directly or indirectly connected to Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope.
The six topics are:
1. Terry Fox’s Accomplishment
2. What is a Humanitarian?
3. Who is Rick Hansen?
4. Helping People with Disabilities
5. Your Community
6. The Terry Fox Foundation
Each one includes a short informational passage and a related research topic with a lined area for answers/paragraph writing. I have also included the six topics and research questions in a continuous format if you prefer to have the students answer questions in their own notebooks. The six are arranged so they may be cut up and laminated as cards (you may not require the students to complete all the topics) and could be used in a center or as group work.
I have also provided a suggested list of books and websites for the first four topics. Topic #5 is more subjective and students will have to do local research. Topic #6 deals solely with The Terry Fox Foundation website and students are asked to pick and choose elements of the site and then provide information and their own opinions.
This resource would be very useful during the Terry Fox Runs of September but overall, it could be used at any time of the year. The focus is on humanitarian work and helping others!
I do have some other resources in my store that focus on the life of Terry Fox and are mostly presented in a biographical informational text format with additional activities. I also have a book study resource for Maxine Trottier's book about Terry Fox. These resources may be seen here:
