Early Finisher Thanksgiving Writing Activities
Thanksgiving Photo Prompts Freebie is a fun collection of eight, full-color photographs to motivate students to write using a Thanksgiving theme.
• The photos are ideal for students in grades 4–6 who can’t think of anything to write about or who have trouble getting started when it comes to creative writing.
• An added bonus is a Word Box that accompanies each photograph with eight words associated with the photo that students can incorporate into their stories.
• Encourage students to come up with original titles for their stories, but if they need a boost, there are several suggested titles listed for each photo prompt.
• The photos look awesome in full color but also reproduce great in grayscale.
SUGGESTED WAYS TO USE THE PHOTO PROMPTS
Learning Center/Station Activity
Before Thanksgiving, place a different photo prompt at a learning center or station for independent work while you’re busy working with other students. You can have reference materials at the center such as a dictionary and a thesaurus. Use the cover of this freebie to decorate the outside of a folder, and place a new photo prompt in the folder each day. These prompts are ideal to use in those hectic days before Thanksgiving and are great to keep your “early finishers” challenged.
Ask your students to work in pairs to create a story using the Thanksgiving Photo Prompts. When students work with a classmate, they can collaborate and bounce ideas off each other. It helps to pair more reluctant writers with students with stronger writing skills.
I hope you and your students have fun with these Thanksgiving Photo Prompts.
A Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
