This is a visualisation (we call it a mind-journey), to stimulate creative writing about the Olympics.
A detailed visualisation and instructions are given and the teacher reads while the room is darkened and children sit with eyes shut and imagine.
The visualisation invites children to imagine they are about to take place in an event and gets children to imagine how they are feeling and what they are thinking. Then they are asked to write in first person and describe what happens. A page for writing is included with space for an illustration. We usually allow about 10 minutes for writing and then children edit and share. This method helps children to access the right side of the brain, switch on their imaginations and write very freely. They LOVE this approach!
