Product Description

Our The Fault in Our Stars Figurative Language contains many examples for learners to examine. To make your digital experience smooth, we include instructions (w/ screenshots!) of how to download and organize your resources in Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive. We've added Google Forms versions of each activity that auto-corrects their responses using a suggested answer key (which you can adjust afterward or modify your answer key) and compiles grades into a spreadsheet with learners' names and class periods to make things easier for you to grade all in one place (some types of question aren't able to auto-grade, though, because of the short-answer format).

Learners will analyze . . .

★ a page of idioms and compare their literal vs. figurative meanings.

★ a page of quotes and determine whether they contain a simile or metaphor.

quotes and determine the figurative device and explain its meaning.

★ They will need to analyze 53 quotes from the story and determine which of the following figurative devices it is:

* Simile

* Metaphor

* Idiom

* Hyperbole

* Analogy

* Personification

* Onomatopoeia

* Pun

* Symbol

WHAT OTHER TEACHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT THIS LITERATURE RESOURCE

♥ This resource made learning so much more authentic. It allowed students to creatively search for figurative language all while interacting with the book! It aided in a more thorough understanding of the book and its unique characteristics!

♥ PERFECT! My reading students tend to struggle with figurative language beyond just metaphors and similes! It really helped my students clarify their understanding with concrete examples.

♥ I have sung your praises in another post, but seriously, I have to teach ELA 9-12 in a special education classroom that asks that I teach each student at his grade level. Translation = I could teach all grade levels at one time. Seriously. It wouldn't be possible to do without these units. The standards are being hit, students are engaged and thinking critically, and I am actually teaching what I love! Thanks again for creating such a user friendly approach that takes the stress out of my planning and preparation nightmare!

♥ I teach figurative language all year long. Since I teach this toward the end of the year, this is a culminating assessment for figurative language. Great resource! I love when my students see the figurative language in the novel we're reading!

♥ I believe that students make powerful connections to literary devices when they see and work with them in print and this activity does just that. It makes the assignment authentic. Thanks.
