Product Description
Jonas and all other 12-year-olds go through the Ceremony of Twelve, their society's ritual during which all young people are assigned the job / career they'll work at for their adult years.

This Google Drive activity simulates that ceremony, bringing to life the reality of having a job assigned to you and providing the opportunity for discussion around what would be good and bad about being assigned a job. Your learners will have a great time with this Giver activity!

What other teachers are saying about this literature unit:

♥ I love this unit! I bought a different unit from another provider outside TpT, and comparatively, this one is more creative and definitely more reliable. I haven't had to correct any proofing errors. Love the chosen graphics as well. The Job Description worksheet is clever and has led to interesting discussions. The QuickWrites are thought- and conversation-provoking as well. I'm really enjoying the depth my students and I are achieving together. This package is a great complement to the book as I help usher them into high school and more mature, analytical thinking.

♥ My students FREAKED out over this! Absolutely BRILLIANT unit! Thanks so much!

♥ I love how thorough and creative this unit is. This will be immensely helpful in my classroom and help my students really get into the novel. Thank you!!

♥ All I can say is WOW! There are some really awesome ideas here. Thank you so much for all your hard work. You just made my life easier!

♥ This is impressive. I love the powerpoints and the quick writes. I purchased another unit and this one is by far the most creative, thought provoking, and organized. Every element pushed the student to engage at multiple levels of thinking from concrete recall to analytical.

This Giver activity uses the list of Top 200 Jobs of 2013 from You can see the complete list and the criteria for the job rankings HERE!!!

Using the Top 25 jobs and the Bottom 25 jobs, students will receive 2 jobs, one from the top and one from the bottom. Then they'll write their thoughts about the job and its description.

Then they analyze the Google Slides that shows each job's ranking and salary. It's always interesting to see how the students' thoughts about a job changes when they see the rank and the salary. It's also eye-opening for them to see all the potential jobs out there.

> 69-Google Slides with jobs, descriptions, rank, and salary and their responses to their own Ceremony assignments.
