Description

This 60-word Giver Vocabulary Word List will help learners engage in the language of The Giver and understand what they're reading (includes page numbers for learners to easily find the words in context of the text).

SUGGESTED ACTIVITY IMPLEMENTATION

We’ve all seen the matching or multiple choice vocabulary assessments with the words in one column and the dictionary definitions in the other. These assessments require the learners to understand the context of the word in a sentence from the novel. Not only does this require them to know the definition, but it forces them to use the word in the right situation.

Learners are challenged to find the word on the page, figure out its meaning from the sentence, and write their own definition without using a dictionary.

This 4-page, 60-Word Giver Vocabulary Assessment will help test learners on the language of The Giver and see how much they understand of what they're reading.

INCLUDED:

→ 60-Word Vocabulary List

→ 60-Question Quiz

→ 2 30-Question Quizzes (same 60 words split into 2 quizzes)

Questions are matching and require the learners to read a line from the text, understand the meaning of the words, and fill in the blank with correct-meaning word.

WHAT OTHER TEACHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT THIS VOCABULARY RESOURCE

♥ Questions were great! Great vocabulary word choices. Vocabulary is not ever really fun for students, but when you can get it for a story that they love, it makes it so much easier! My students loved having vocabulary that came from their story rather than having a preselected list that had nothing to do with her reading material.

♥ I love this! Not only do students have to define the word, they need to figure out the context of the word using clues from the book. No more boring definitions copied from a dictionary-these make students think!!

Very engaging and a great way to ensure that students really understand unfamiliar vocabulary. The teacher author chose great vocabulary words, and includes the page number that each can be found on. It is strictly what is in the preview. The quizzes are composed of sentences lifted directly from the text. It was an enrichment to my existing unit.

♥ Super! I used this with my special education students in our literature circles! The vocabulary was a huge help, The quizzes were excellent resources for an assessment at the end of the book! Thanks for making my life easier! A+++

♥ LOVED this instead of a more traditional approach to vocabulary. Love how the words were relevant. Great list of vocabulary words from the book along with quizzes! Working on words in context is beneficial in so many ways. This got the kids to make sure they use the words in context and reference the text. Knowing how the words are used in the book is invaluable. Thanks!
