The Great Cookie Caper--Baking Up a Big Batch of Poems for Fluency Practice

Description
Welcome to to the busy kitchen of Mrs. Claus! Get ready to bake up a batch of learning fun!
Your students will love partner reading or group choral reading this original collection of thematic poems!
Six verses are included in this resource designed to help students practice reading with fluency, expression, automaticity, and confidence! The poems can be collated into a booklet format and used either in large/small group guided reading lessons or as a literacy center. I copied two pages per sheet and stapled them into booklets for my students, but you can also copy them in letter-size.
Creative writing and rhyming skill worksheets are also included in the packet, along with character cards that can be printed and laminated for durability before being used in a pocket chart for story retelling and sequencing. They can also be made into stick puppets for a fun Reader's Theater presentation!
Two literature links that correlate to the unit's "cookie" theme include Robert Sabuda's beautiful pop-up book, Cookie Count and George Shannon and Julie Paschkis' Who Put The Cookie in the Cookie Jar. Check out this post for more ideas on how to use it in your classroom. You will also find a yummy recipe and a fun song/circle game to go along with the stories!
