Introduce students to "The Hitchhiker" by Roald Dahl with these ready-to-use short story resources.

- Figurative Language Sort: Students will sort quote cards from the story to reveal a mystery question (answer key included).
- Reading Questions: Students will dive deeper into literary elements by answering questions to show their understanding of characterization, theme, and foreshadowing (answer key included).
- Dialogue & Diction Analysis: Students examine quotes from each of the three characters and determine how the diction and dialogue reveal character (answer key included).

- Postcard Writing: Students take on the role of the driver or the hitchhiker and send the other character a postcard after they part ways.
- Wanted Poster Project: Students imagine that the police are hot on the hitchhiker's tail after the story and are posting wanted posters. Students must use their understanding of the character and text evidence from the story to create their poster.
- Pickpocket Police Report: Students create a police report for the hitchhiker where they imagine that he has been caught after the story ends. They will include a description of the subject, evidence, witness testimonies, and more.
- Descriptive Writing Activity: Students use the description of the driver's car as inspiration to write about their own treasured item.
