THE LOUISIANA PURCHASE Would You Close the Deal? by Elaine Landau (suggested for grades 3-4). This nonfiction book unit created by My Reading Resources includes a 24-page student packet with short answer questions, language skills, and vocabulary work. The book engages students by asking them what they would do at the end of each chapter – these questions are great for discussions. I’ve divided the book into 6 sections. There’s a list of suggested activities for students to complete after reading the book, a 4-page quiz with vocabulary matching and multiple choice comprehension questions. Word wall cards are included, and so are smaller cards students can use to play matching games with words and definitions. Just glue them onto index cards to make them more durable and uniform in size. A variety of graphic organizers are also included that students can use to find main idea, supporting details, and cause/effect relationships.
There's are crossword puzzles and a word search, too!
key words: Louisiana Purchase, Napoleon, Thomas Jefferson, port of New Orleans, nonfiction
