A simple Times Tables Math game for Centres. Students recall times tables facts and complete answers as they are timed.
The goal is to have students able to quickly and automatically recall facts.
There are 8 individual boards, because after a few attempts, students become familiar with the placement of the numbers, so you need to swap boards to mix it up.
In the middle circle student writes the table they are practising, eg 8X
Then, they work their way around the circle of ice creams, multiplying the numbers on the cone by the one they wrote in the middle. They write their answer on the scoop.
This is more effective as a partner activity, so someone can time how long it takes their friend to complete. I add a time penalty (5 sec) for every incorrect answer, otherwise some kids don’t care.
The challenge is to strive and achieve a personal best time.
Print and laminate for re-use.
I’ve included an individual record keeping sheet for students: and some awards to recognise achievements. I allow students to colour and decorate their award, so there is no need for colour printing.
I’ve repeated the boards in greyscale, if you prefer for copying.
This is included in a BUNDLE of Times Tables items.
I have other sets of games for Times Tables. I find the variety is great and the students do get the connection after a while.
