I've revamped my tables sheets and designed them so the multiples are down the middle. I am finding more success with some kids learning them this way.
Once they have the concept of multiplication being 'lots of' I tape that number of discs together and we make up the multiples sequence. Then, with the multiples sequence I cover up a multiple at a time until they are good at remembering the missing multiple. After that I cover up two or more multiples.
I play Stepping Stones and use a timer and some of my kids really take to that, learning the tables in an hour. When it works like this (but it doesn't for everyone), it's just magic.
Try it. I use it one-on-one for kids who have had difficulty learning their tables, so you will need to adapt if you have groups.
