INCLUDED IN THIS UNIT ON TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD ARE THE FOLLOWING:
➢ 20 Interactive Google Slides - you simply share the file with your students and they answer the questions on their computers. I have also included this assignment as a PDF so that you can do the assignment without a computer.
➢ Using Google Slides is such an exciting new way to engage your students - the artwork is exceptional and complements this wonderful novel!!!
➢ The slides contain a series of questions that test reading comprehension as well as engage the students in textual analysis. Students type in answers on their computers (everything is automatically saved in Google Drive).
➢ Students cannot lose their assignments - check your students’ work in the revision history to see what they finished and when they finished it.
➢ I use Google Classroom for all of my assignments. I create the assignment in Google slides or as a Google doc - I post the assignment and Classroom makes a copy of the file (for each student) - they simply hit “turn in” when they are ready to submit. It’s accessible anywhere through Google Chrome. It is their own file with their name on it. They may also share the file with you or with other students when they are doing group work.
➢ No prep - the unit is ready to go - simply share the file with your students (a link is provided) and they answer the questions on their computers (at home or in class). No printing and no lost assignments.
➢ This is the first of three assignments on TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD posted to TpT. The questions asked here cover Part One only. The slides contain interesting quotations from the book that deal with honor, law, courage, and more. With a bit of guidance, this assignment could be done by younger students. The questions are appropriate for High School all the way through University. My second unit will contain questions similar to this on Part Two of the book and my third unit will ask more difficult questions - for instance, when I teach this wonderful novel to undergrads I contrast aspects of it with Socrates’ teaching on the difference between law and justice.

CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.8.1 Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.9-10.1: W 11-12.1 Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.11-12.9 Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research.
I teach TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD as a TEXTURE TEXT or a CONTEXT TEXT usually alongside Plato's Republic. It is an excellent story to use when studying philosophical concepts including, but not limited to, the following: JUSTICE, LAW, MORALITY, FRIENDSHIP, and more.
