This resource includes 2 student worksheet for students to graph the tension in Tomorrow When the War Began. This is a great way to revise plot structure and events in the novel. It also reinforces tension and suspense in narrative writing. This is a particularly good strategy to engage visual learners and even reluctant readers. It also ticks the box for the Australian Curriculum's General Capabilities in Numeracy- finding opportunities for students to transfer their mathematical knowledge and skills (graphing) to contexts outside the mathematics classroom.
I have used the editable version (with events from the whole novel) with students on their laptops and moving the numbers around on their Word Document. This can be little bit fiddly! Now I use the printed version which I think is better and easier for students to use. I like using this early on in the unit when the students are still reading the novel to help hook them into the storyline. But I have included both so you can decide what works best for your classroom.
