I modeled this story after the extended readings by Blaine Ray. This 364-word story is an extension of the poem Déjeuner du matin by Jaques Prévert. I used the basic story line and many of the same structures from the poem, and added more details to make it more of a narrative. Once students have started memorizing the poem and are familiar with the structures, I use this as an extra reading to further reinforce the structures and vocabulary from the poem. It also encourages them to actually know the structures and not just memorize the story line of the poem. These stories are very easy to adjust based on grade and class level! This story includes:
clothing vocabulary/ some food vocabulary
passé composé of several être and avoir verbs (the majority of the verbs I used come straight from the poem)
imparfait (with just a little bit of plus-que-parfait)
direct object "le"
indirect object "lui"
The document includes a 20 question comprehension quiz. This can be used as an oral quiz (they listen to the story read out loud) or a reading quiz.
Il y avait un homme qui habitait à Lyon en France. Mercredi matin, il est sorti de sa maison à 4h30 du matin pour aller au café. Il pleuvait, alors il a mis un manteau de pluie et un chapeau rose.
