This is a unit plan I designed to carry students from a TPR sequence to TPRS culminating activities. This is the second unit that I have developed for reinforcement of vocabulary
The students learn the commands/actions for 26 Spanish words. (mira, escucha, habla, grita, llora, etc.) They review these for about 3 weeks while regular lessons continue.
There are 7 short stories/readings in this unit, I use the vocabulary (action/command words) to assist in their understanding of the story.
The stories include vocabulary and stick figure drawings that sequence the events of each story. The vocab and drawings are included for each of the 7 stories.
The 7 stories all have a comprehension activity to follow. Some of the activities have the student match vocabulary terms to pictures. Other activities have the student draw based on sentences written in a storyboard. Another has the students writing and drawing on a storyboard (these have the student draw where there is writing and write where there are drawings).
The story line is about two professional basketball players that have an accident on the court. They go to the hospital and are seen by doctors that are avid fans of basketball. It so happens that the two injured players are the most important players for each of the respective doctors on their "Fantasy Basketball" teams. The doctors go to play the big game, where the two teams face each other, as the substitutes to the regular players. It is quite amusing for the students to imagine.
My students love being able to understand, speak and use the vocabulary and it really boosts their confidence.
