Travel the World is an activity I created to provide a real-world context for students to practice working with decimals, and to learn a little about the world as they go!

This resource is based on traveling to South America. It is a comprehensive 2-week journey with a realistic itinerary for a family of four. All information presented in this package has been thoroughly researched, and is valid as of July 2017, including all currency conversions, transportation costs, accommodations and tourist excursion packages. I believe in providing real-world contexts for students to demonstrate their understanding of mathematical concepts, so you never have to hear, “When are we ever going to use this?” Math is everywhere!

All travel distances are provided by www.travelmath.com and represent accurate distances “as the crow flies”.

US VERSION:
All measurements are presented in miles, feet or pounds and currency conversions are given as an exchange rate on USD. For simplicity sake, I used the capital, Washington DC, as the departure and arrival location.

CDN VERSION:
All measurements are presented in kilometres, metres or kilograms and currency conversions are given as an exchange rate on CAD. For simplicity sake, I used Calgary, Alberta, as the departure and arrival location.

This resource contains:
• 7 stations presenting realistic, well-researched information for a 6-part journey through South America
• 4-page student worksheet with 40+ mathematical calculations to perform based on the information about the journey
• Teacher answer key

Math Literacy requires an understanding of Math language, as well as an ability to discern relevant from superfluous information. This product requires students to read carefully in order to accurately complete the student worksheet package.

**Your download includes both the US and the CDN version**
