Music Theory Games
rhythm & time signatures
treble & bass clefs
music symbols & terms
As a music educator, I have dedicated many years to finding ways to help young students become musically literate and still consider it “fun”. One result is Tune Travels- a series of music games for use with students individually or in groups. The games reinforce reading and aural recognition of rhythms, solfa and notes, and also a ready knowledge of key signatures, musical symbols, terms and forms. They take from 10 minutes to ½ hour to play and can be played by 2 to 6 students (although by having partners as many as 12 can play).
I have purposely made them suitable for a small group so that the teacher finds it easier to recognize the needs of individual students.
The games teach the material which is required for the Royal Conservatory Preliminary Rudiments examination.
If this book encourages a student to enjoy music,
it will have fulfilled its purpose.
I am most grateful to Connie Foss More and Angela Martin and Frona Colquhoun for introducing me to the philosophies of Zoltan Kodaly, Maria Montessori and Shinichi Suzuki.
