This assignment was born out of necessity! My students are entrenched In their L1 community and language. Our classes are also taught bilingually; therefore, I created this TV homework assignment to get them listening to English outside of our classroom walls. They also learn nonverbal cultural cues via physical proximity, gender roles, gestures and facial expressions.
This product consists of: 1) a graphic organizer to note important logistical information and plot elements and 2) a scaffolded writing assignment with prompts to fill in the blanks. The graphic organizer and subsequent assignment may be modified to suit your students' names In fact, my beginner students have been weaned off of the scaffolded writing organizer and now write TV show reviews on their own. They also present them in class.
My students love when their homework is to watch TV!
