This lab uses the NYS Reference Table - Table G to assist students in making judgments about the saturation state of a given solution. Students have a couple of objectives in this lab.
The manipulate the saturation state of a solution by mass of solute, then by temperature (causing a recrystallization of solute that can no longer remain in solution).
Students also learn the fundamentals of making a solution.
My labs are straightforward. Some of them are paper labs, but the ones that involve significant laboratory setup or calculations to be made on the part of the teacher are written about in a Teacher Notes section at the end of those particular labs. I use relatively safe and inexpensive chemicals. Of course, safety precautions are always noted at the beginning of the lab.
