Table Manners Character Ed Lesson w 8 video links Social Skills PBIS
Recent research has shown the importance of social skills to the success in life for students, both young and old. As you know, the ability to navigate the very important skills of proper etiquette can make the difference between achieving goals and having a less-than-successful social and business life.
I created this lesson to help students to understand not only WHY it is important to develop these skills, but also to help them to understand exactly what is expected of our culture. Both you and I know that more than a few students are not being exposed to these vital skills in their life outside of school, and without the support of classes that include manners and etiquette, they will find themselves to be adults without the skills needed to be successful.
In this lesson, you will be covering the concepts of:
• Chewing with mouth closed
• Proper posture when eating
• Showing respect for others using manners
• Why social skills are necessary to success
• Using utensils
• Eating breads correctly
• Other misc. table manners
This presentation has 18 slides and includes notes and discussion tips to use to evaluate students’ understanding. It also has a link to 8 videos that support the covered concepts. The videos range from 3-26 minutes and are done in a humorous way to help kids learn and have fun at the same time.
Additionally, I have included links to additional resources that you may find valuable as well as a master slide so that you can customize the presentation to meet your specific needs. The resources will help you in your presentation and background development and will give you additional ideas for your lesson
This lesson can very easily be adapted for both primary and intermediate (or even upper intermediate) levels simply by rearranging the slides.
I would schedule a minimum of 45 minutes for this lesson and, depending on your delivery pace and the amount of discussion that you have. You may even want to turn it into two separate lessons.
The PowerPoint is customizable and has a master slide that can be copied to make your own slides to personalize the lesson for your students and teaching style. The presentation includes both animations and transitions to hold your students' interest. Make your lesson come alive for your students and help them to connect to the concept in a fun way that will help them to remember the important lessons you need for them to remember.
Videos are NOT embedded but are links.
