Teaching 5th graders can sometimes be a challenge... until they can see it as a competition! I use this chart to track points that my tables earn. I customized mine to accommodate how I have my students seated (I've adjusted it several times, depending on my seating arrangement). I've also made changes to the list of "ways" students can earn/lose points based on behaviors I experience from them.
I've found that this, inserted in a sheet protector makes it an easy thing to adjust as necessary.
Students brainstorm what they want that weeks "reward" to be, and I come up with something for their payment to me if I win.
Ideas for rewards: Sit Where You Want Day, Writing Implement of Choice Day, Homework Pass, etc.
Ideas for payments: Dull Pencil Day, Sit Boy-Girl Day, No Color Day (everything is in b/w and pencil that day), Talk Free Hour each day, etc.
