This is a wonderful activity to get all students engaged in the pre-writing process. Students respond to a prompt. Then, the papers are collected and re-distributed at random. Students read over the response written by their peer and write their own thoughts and opinions about it (along with their name so they don't get the same paper twice) in the next speech bubble. This process is repeated two more times. By the time students are done, they've "talked" to three other students and have new ideas to add to their paper. Then, students will answer the prompt again, this time as a well-developed paragraph. They may even change their mind about how they feel about the topic.
