Here is a blank format that I have all my students use to keep their notebooks organized. It has a place to write the title of the page and the number of the page. Whenever I hand out papers to students, we number them. This very clear and organized grid has spaces for 54 pages. It also has a blank for the student's name and class period. I assign one very organized student in each class to write all pages on a master copy for his/her class on the bulletin board so that absentees can check when they return. This really works like a charm and is very easy to grade. At the end of each quarter I grade it only on two factors: is every page numbered? are all the numbers in order? If so, I then take off points for missing pages. If we have 35 pages then they are 3 points each. I like to round numbers for ease. I tell students that I will not even grade their notebooks if the pages are not numbered and in order. Try this! It is a Microsoft Word file.
