Card sorts are a perfect way to provides students with a hands-on, minds-on learning experience. This card sort is meant as a way to help students make connections between tables, graphs and functions. It can be used at any time during a unit on functions. It works great as an introduction building upon what students already know, and it works great as reinforcement of concepts already taught in class.
This card sort comes with options! Pages are included with 1 or 2 sets of cards to a page so that you can choose the size of cards your students will use. Pages are also included that have a few blank cards that students need to fill in to increase the challenge in your class. You can use any combination of pages for your class. Regardless of which pages you use, the answer key remains the same.
Both linear and quadratic functions are used, but rest assured that the card sort can be completed without knowing about quadratic functions. In fact, I use this in my class before they've ever multiplied polynomials or heard the term 'quadratic'.
My students really enjoy completing card sorts, and they provide great discussions and questions that lead to deep learning. I hope you enjoy this as much as my students and I do!
