In this activity, students will solve equations with variables on both sides while working in four-person cooperative learning groups. The equations and solutions include integers. This activity can be used as a review game or as practice after a lesson.
In each round of the game, the group members solve different equations and then add their solutions together for a tabletop total. The group earns points when they get the tabletop total correct. This game is a competition for points, not a race. Students are encouraged to check each other’s work to earn the most points. The problems in some rounds are differentiated so that Problem D is the most challenging and Problem A is the least challenging.
This file includes instructions, an answer key, a score sheet for student use, and five rounds of the game.
