After reading the story, students will recall story elements such as: title, author, characters, setting, problem, and solution. They will retell the story by writing or drawing what happens in the beginning, middle, and end of the story. Students will illustrate the main characters in the story on the photograph template. They will dig deeper in their thinking about each of the main characters by defining character traits. The word search will provide your students practice with vocabulary words that are found in the text. Students will sort the character cards, then list the characters' names in alphabetical order. They will complete pages that are meant to foster text-to-self connections, where students will compare their own personal experiences with that of the characters. Assess your students’ comprehension of the story by having them write or draw their personal reflections about the story. Foster more connections by comparing the names of the characters in the story, and what their penguin names might be!True or false questions about the story challenge students to recall details from the text.
