Tactile Letter Differentiated Literacy Center
•Included in this Resource:
•This center is SO much fun! It is very versatile! Your little learners will be so engaged and delight in the tactile experience along with the phonemic awareness and literacy learning!
Students reach into socks to find and feel a tactile letter. They close their eyes, feel the letter, trace it and try to figure out what it is. They take it out to look and see if they were right, tracing it again with their index finger. They find the picture with the matching sound and practice writing the letter next to it on the recording sheet. The recording sheets are differentiated as follows:
•Level 1: Half sheets with 5 letters to find, match, and record (letters on top of page for learner support), lowercase and uppercase sets provided. (8 lowercase, 8 uppercase)
•Level 2: Full sheet with 10 letters to find, match, and record (no letters on top of page for challenge), can be used with both lowercase and uppercase letters. (4)
•Level 3: Less of a recording sheet, more of a writing prompt. Learner will reach into sock, find, trace and say letter sound. They find a picture to match the sound and then sound out to write the word to match the object and illustrate. ( load with different letters each time using the same recording sheet to find different letters/objects) (1)
•Level 4: In this more advanced version, students feel to find the letter, find an object with the same sound and write a sentence with an illustration about the object. (1)
•“I can” statement cards for centers
